Gaming Addict

My name is Human and I am a computer game addict.

I love playing PC games... from Word and Card games to Command and Conquer, Pharoah to Sims, Indiana Jones to Age of Empires ( and all their expansions, etc). Sometimes it gets me into trouble, for instance I went to bed at half past one this morning and had to get up for work at 5 o'clock... just because the damn Dorians kept attacking me before I could build up my army to defeat them once and for all!

My son and his IT geek friend says I am the only Grandmother they know of with the gaming skills of a teenager. I am not sure whether it is a compliment or an insult.

Lately I have been playing a silly game called Farm Town on Facebook and I truly enjoy this, not so much for the game, but for the wonderful people I have met through the game.

One in particular is a favourite. She lives in London in the UK, but was born in Zimbabwe, the then Rhodesia and our nearest neighbouring country, and left at the peak of the terrorist war. She has the most amazing story to tell and I am trying to convince her to start her own blog, although she does have a webpage somewhere else on the net.

Another Farm Town friend used to live here in my hometown but is now living in Mali, while another one who lived here now lives in the North of America. Through Farm Town we regularly visit each other and have wonderful chats.

A lovely young woman in Mexico is teaching me Spanish while I am teaching her Afrikaans and through FT I have made my first African American friend ever.

I particularly enjoy going into the Market Place and asking where everybody comes from. There are people in there from all over the world and I had great fun one night chatting to someone from Belgium in Afrikaans as Flemish and my own language are so closely related. This is also where I realised that part of the USA is in the Southern Hemisphere!!! On asking who was from the SH I received a reply from someone living in Florida! I was speechless ( or is it typeless) my own stupidity as I seem to have had the idea that only SA, Australia and New Zealand were here "down under". Does anybody else ever have such absolutely blonde moments?

Now I know that at my age a person is supposed to be wise and mature and not into such silly, time wasting passtimes, but oh dear, it is such fun and as Jozey-girl would say: "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional".

I think its wonderful you are meeting interesting people from all over the world by playing a computer game. Keep it up and I hope you finally beat the Dorians.

It is very much a compliment! I hope to have those kinds of compliments someday! The internet has been such an interesting way to connect and befriend people. Blogging has pretty much saved my sanity. I am soooo grateful for my Blog World friends and their comments that make me realize I am not the only person going through the things I go through.
